Immunizations

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Please make sure your children are up-to-date with vaccines. School-age children, from preschoolers through college age, should be immunized against specific diseases. Please take your children to the doctor if they have not had all of the necessary vaccinations.

Making sure that children of all ages receive all of their vaccinations on time is one of the most important things you can do as a parent to ensure your child’s long-term health, as well as the health of friends, classmates, and others in our community. To keep children in school healthy, YIS strongly recommends that students be vaccinated against certain diseases. If you don’t know which vaccinations your children have received, please check with your family doctor or your health department to ensure that your child is up to date with the required vaccines.

As you know, we have children and staff from all over the world and many of our students travel to destinations throughout the world during the breaks and on school field trips. This makes it even more important that vaccinations are up-to-date. Vaccination requirements vary between countries. However, we must adhere to the immunization recommendations for Japan as follows:

Routine Vaccinations

·       Hepatitis B x3

·       Haemophilus influenza type b (Hib) x4

·       Pneumococcal conjugate x4

·       Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, & inactivated polio (DPT/IPV) x4

·       BCG x1

·       Measles & Rubella (MR) x2

·       Varicella (Chicken pox) x2

·       Japanese Encephalitis x3 and then (age 9-12) x1

·       HPV (Human Papillomavirus) (age 11-16) x3

Voluntary Vaccinations (they are as necessary as routine vaccines)

·       Rotavirus x3

·       Mumps x2

·       Hepatitis A x2

·       Meningococcus

·       Influenza annual vaccination
