Welcome Back from Spring Break
After a brief pause halfway through the action, the 3rd and final season is back on track barreling full speed ahead toward the culminating tournaments. However, before we get into all the action that is coming up, there were a couple of big events that took place right before the break that we never got a chance to recognize, which deserve a quick mention.
From March 10-11, both the varsity boys and girls participated in their annual WJAA soccer tournaments, with the boys traveling down to CA in Kobe, while our girls got a chance to play in the cozy confines of their local stomping grounds, the YCAC.
The boys kicked things off on Friday morning against long time nemesis SOIS, who per usual gave YIS a good match and though our boys dominated time of possession fell just a bit short, losing 2-1. Meanwhile back in Yokohama, the varsity girls also dominated possession in their inaugural game against CAJ, but similar to the boys, struggled to convert their chances and in the end lost 3-0.
Back in Kobe, the boys rebounded with aplomb against MC Perry, putting on a clinic in ball movement, and finishing in an 8-0 victory and a securing a spot in the semi-finals. Unfortunately, our girls were not as fortunate, as they lost to a very strong CA squad 2-0, forcing them to take the long track to potentially playing in the finals.
The following morning the girls kicked things off with a match against Sacred Heart for a chance to go to the semi-finals, and again they managed to create a few chances, but conceded a couple of late goals which put the girls into the 5th/6th place match. The boys did not fair much better, as just like the girls they lost to a strong CA squad, and while disappointed they did not make the finals, where eager to extract a little revenge in the 3rd/4th place match against neighborhood rivals St. Maur.
In the 5th/6th place match the girls finally broke their goal scoring draught in style, beating St. Maur 2-0 to finish in 5th, while the boys managed to avenge their loss earlier in the season, with a 2-1 victory to secure 3rd place. The final places may not have been what the teams hoped for, but both teams were pleased to end the tournament on a high note.
Jump ahead to this week, and already there have been 3 more games for the varsity boy's soccer, with victories over Zama and Kinnick, 2-1 and 6-0 respectively as well as a 1-1 draw with the German school. The girls are also in action this week, as they take on BST tomorrow at 4:30 pm up at the YCAC. Well-done boys, and good luck girls!
