Special Olympics Unified Basketball Practice

The Kanagawa Special Olympics Unified Basketball team spent three days in November and December practicing with YIS students, staff and parents, continuing a long-standing tradition of community engagement, and providing friendly competition for the whole family. Teams consist of Unified members, YIS students, staff and parents, with members constantly shuffled between games.

This event fits our community service ethos which is a central part of our character and mission. In addition to the service learning programs for students, we also engage with our surrounding community as a school community through events such as this, our Van der Poel Christmas party supporting orphanages and an elderly home, and the ELC's parent-child Craft Day in December that results in handmade gifts for the Lady of Lourdes Baby Home.
