One of the notable things with international school sports, and schools in general, is that there is always so much packed into a short amount of time. We are just 3 weeks into the third season, yet already nearly halfway through it! However, rather than complain about the lack of time, it is best to make sure that every game and practice counts. This is something that our YIS students are incredibly apt at doing, as the leap they make from week 1 to week 8 never ceases to amaze. With that said, let's take a quick look back on the opening week of games for YIS.
The HS girls soccer team kicked off the season this past Saturday up at the YCAC, as the varsity girls took on defending KANTO league champions Kinnick. It was definitely a tough assignment having to go against the defending champs for the first game, but as the saying goes "someone has to do it." Our girls played well and held their own, and though the final score of 5-0 would not indicate a competitive match, the girls felt that on a different day, the score could have been very different. The JV girls followed the varsity and avenged them a bit with a strong 2-0 victory over Sacred Heart JV. Ending the day on a nice little high note for the Dragons.
Then just yesterday the varsity boys kicked off their season with a match against Zama. It was an a bit of a lop-sided affair as our boys put 5 past the Zama keeper, and held strong at the back, not conceding a single goal. Could hardly ask for a better start to the season but no time to rest on their laurels for our boys, as they have games on Wednesday, and Friday this week!
Not a whole lot of games on the docket these upcoming few days, but things are just getting warmed up!
