In Memoriam: Curtis Bond, Class of 1975
We were saddened to hear that Curtis Bond, YIS Class of 1975, passed away on January 10, 2017 after a long illness. He is survived by two sons. Stephen Bond of Woburn, Massachusetts, and Daniel Bond of Hooksett, New Hampshire. Curtis's former wife, Susan Hunt Bond, the mother of his two sons, passed away in 2014.
Curtis had a long and successful career. After graduating from YIS in 1975, he went to college at Sophia in Japan, where he met his wife Susan. The two moved to the Bay Area in 1978 where he worked as national sales manager for Oriental Motor and built a sales organization to sell products for FHP Electric Motors. In 1998, Curtis became national sales manager for Nidec, rising to become director of sales, and he continued working at Nidec until 2001.
It was during his time at Nidec that he traveled the world connecting with YIS alumni across the globe from Australia to Europe. He established a YIS alumni association and became its president.
From 2002 to 2003, Curtis worked as an independent insurance agent for Aflac, and the following year he went to work as an insurance agent for HealthMarkets. Curtis lived his final years in the Seattle area with his father, Harry, who had worked for Boeing for 50 years but passed away in 2013.
Curtis spent his last months in a care facility where he was well-liked among the staff. HIs sons said the staff enjoyed his joking and mischievous ways. At one point Curtis figured out the lock combinations to get into the kitchen. One employee, whose mother owned a Japanese antique store, became close to Curtis as they often talked about Japan.
