It was another exciting week in sports for the YIS Dragons, with plenty of games both at home and on the road.
The Varsity Girls volleyball team had a busy week, taking on Sacred Heart on Monday, and Christian Academy Japan on Saturday. The girls came up short in both matches, losing 3-1 and 3-0 respectively but they gained a lot of experience as they look to build momentum and confidence as they get closer and closer to the Association of International Schools in Asia tournament.
Meanwhile, the Varsity Boys hosted their only home game of the season, taking on Canadian International School this past Wednesday, in front of a raucous crowd. The boys played some inspiring volleyball and sent everyone home happy as they convincingly took the match 3 sets to 0. While the boys do not have any more home games, they will have one more match in Tokyo when they take on British School in Tokyo on Sunday, 15th October.
The MS Boys soccer team took on AOBA-Japan at the YCAC. It was a thrilling back and forth affair, with the boys battling back from being down 3-1 at halftime to draw level before unfortunately losing 4-3. The boys were thrilled with how they responded to the initial adversity and are hopeful for more success going forward.
While most of the school was off enjoying a holiday on Friday, the HS Girls Tennis team took on Sacred Heart at the Honmoku Tennis Courts, and our Junior Varsity Girls volleyball team partook in the Western Japan Activities Association JV Volleyball Tournament in Osaka. For the girls tennis, it was an entertaining affair, and certainly produced some great results, as both our 1st and 2nd singles won their matches. Unfortunately, the team could not quite hold on, and in the end, they fell 2 matches to 3.
The JV girls volleyball team had an exciting weekend, as they flew through the opening rounds of the WJAA tournament beating Hokkaido, Nagoya, and Osaka in straight sets to meet with defending champions Marist in the semi-finals. The girls continued to impress and won in straight sets to move into the finals against hosts Osaka. After taking the first set, Osaka pulled off a great comeback to take the championship 2 sets to 1. Though it was a tough loss to take, the girls were very proud of their performance and it goes without saying that the future of YIS volleyball is in good hands.
Looking forward to the upcoming week, a bit slower than past weeks, but still plenty to forward to, including approaching the time when we can turn off the AC and turn on the space heaters!
