Elementary students tried their hand at using block code to program Sphero and Codepillar robots in the library's Creative Commons maker space. Mr. Broughton provided guidance to the intrepid and curious young programmers as they made the oddly-shaped robots navigate a course laid out on the library floor. Sequencing and timing were employed throughout the task to program the robot to turn at specific points. Block code allows students to start with the basics of sequencing specific tasks to accomplish a larger task, without having to remember the syntax of complicated code.
The Creative Commons is a new space in the library designed to foster and evoke creativity of all forms from students and staff. Come have a look when visiting the school.
