Classical Music Concert with Mimi Solomon and Nicholas DiEugenio, Wed., Apr. 4, 4:15 pm - 5:15 pm, Auditorium
Classical musicians Mimi Solomon (piano) and Nicholas DiEugenio (violin) will be on campus this Wednesday to lead several master classes for our high school music students and also perform a concert for the YIS community. All are welcome to attend the concert; admission is free of charge.
Ms. Solomon and Mr. DiEugenio, who are members of the Music Department faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, have performed extensively around the world and have been engaged in an ambitious project, Unraveling Beethoven; Beyond the Canon, that seeks to "reanimate" the ten Beethoven violin sonatas for 21st century ears and sensibilities through performances of commissioned compositions that "pull on a 'loose thread' of Beethoven's and reweave it." In addition to their regular teaching and performing activities, they are artistic directors of the university's youth chamber orchestra, MYCO, a pre-professional program for middle school, high school and college students focused on chamber music and chamber orchestra performance. MYCO strives to encourage students to develop skills that will serve them throughout their lives (as musicians or otherwise): creativity, artistry, and collaboration.
