Alumni in Japan's Music World
Two YIS alumni continue to gain recognition in Japan's active and varied music industry.
Cellist Chris Gibson, Class of 2005, will be performing the Bach Solo Series, The Last Chapter, at Suntory Hall, Tokyo, on Fri., Dec. 15. Chris is a talented musician having studied overseas and in Japan with renowned masters, including those at the Yale School of Music as an undergraduate cellist. Up and coming R&B singer, Aisha, Class of 2008, recently won TV Tokyo's well-known program, Karaoke Battle (カラオケバトル), adding momentum to her burgeoning career. Aisha was born into a musical family with both her parents deeply involved in the international and national music scenes. A song from her debut album was chosen as the theme song of the immensely popular anime, Naruto in 2012. Her songs were subsequently used in commercial campaigns for Reebok and Coca-Cola, and as the theme song for the prominent international fitness and dance show, Zumba.
