AISA Review

Welcome back Dragon Athletic fans. We trust that everyone had an exhilarating yet restful fall break. There was plenty of thrilling AISA action just before the break started, which many people witnessed in person on the various livestreams. Below is a quick recap of what was an historic weekend for YIS.

In our gym, the Varsity Girls Volleyball team hosted the AISA Girls Volleyball Tournament, awarding them the chance to play in front of a raucous home crowd. The colorful banners and equally colorful cheers made it feel like the entire YIS community was cheering our girls on. The girls responded in kind by winning their group on Friday. As word spread that the girls were looking like contenders for the finals, the crowds grew, with the gym packed to the rafters as the girls dominated St. Maur in straight sets to win the AISA crown! Special congratulations to Tessa, Grace and Angela who were selected to be a part of the All Tournament team.

Meanwhile, two hours away, the Boys Volleyball team was competing in their AISA tournament in Osaka. Despite six of their seven starters graduating last year, the young squad put up a valiant fight. The boys were pleased with their efforts, and especially thrilled that they were able to avenge their loss to Nagoya earlier in the year, finishing in a respectable fourth place. Next year looks bright for the team with five returning starters. Special congratulations to Shaun and Taro who were selected to be a part of the All Tournament team.

Our boys and girls Cross Country teams were in Seoul, Korea for the inaugural AISA Cross Country race, and though nervous, both were incredibly excited to participate in this new event. After two days of racing, the boys and girls combined scores put them in fifth place, with nearly all 10 of our runners finishing with personal best times. The tournament was a smashing success! Special congratulations to Kenryo who was selected to be a part of the All Tournament team, and finished fifth overall in the five kilometer run.

Congratulations everyone on a successful season. Season 2 is just around the corner!
