Visiting Alumni: Gil Libling and Daniel Eckhoff

Alumni Gil Libling '97 and Daniel Eckhoff '17

We were fortunate to have two alumni visit our campus recently for two very different purposes.

For Gil Libling, from the Class of 1997, it was the first time back at YIS since his graduation. Gil went on to study at university in the United States where he currently lives with his family. During his walk around campus, he fondly recalled GG Mini Mart, the previous location of the library in the main building and of course memorable teachers. Several of his teachers are still at YIS, including Russell Brown and Simon Lorimer (pictured with Gil below), Sylvie Maeda and Elisa Kumamoto.

Daniel Eckhoff, from the Class of 2017, spoke to high school arts classes about his art education and instruction at the university level to provide current students with some insight on life after high school. Students were eager to see what exactly university art students learn and the work they produce. Daniel explained the theories and skills required for the works he presented. Daniel is studying interior design at the Manchester School of Art after completing a foundation year at Leeds Art University.

We are very fortunate to have alumni return to campus to reminisce or the enhance the experience of current students through insight and advice. We thank Gil and Daniel for continuing to be a part of the YIS community. We hope to see them and other alumni again.
