Who are we

We are Sukui No Te, a committed service organization that supports the community of homeless people around Yokohama. Our goal is to provide both material and emotional support to individuals who are in need while also demonstrating compassion, care, and assistance. We aspire to create an empathetic culture in our community through our actions, which are based on the belief that modest, regular acts of kindness can have an impact on the lives of the homeless.

What do we do

Every week, in collaboration with local nonprofits, we prepare and serve onigiris to the homeless. Occasionally, we also donate other necessities like clothes, razors, and other necessities. We hope that by making these tiny acts known, we can help homeless people feel cared for and respected again. In order to make sure that our efforts are long-lasting and have an influence, our organization is dedicated to fostering a relationship of mutual respect and trust with the people we assist.

Upcoming Events

Over the next few weeks, we will be running a program called Giving Tree. It seeks to involve the whole school community in directly helping homeless people. We will put up a "Giving Tree" and decorate it with sticky notes, each representing a specific thing a homeless person may need: toiletries, winter clothes, and non-perishable food items. We will encourage the members of our school community to take a sticky note off, buy what is on that note, and bring it back to the tree so we can then distribute it to the homeless. Not only does this provide the much-needed supplies to the homeless, but also raises consciousness, providing a concrete opportunity for giving back to our community.

Future Plans

In the near future, we plan to expand our organization to support not just our local homeless community but also reach out to other vulnerable groups in need, both regionally and beyond. As we grow, our vision seeks to form partnerships with other NPOs, schools, and local governments to create a wider network of support. This would allow us to extend our initiatives to neighboring cities and, eventually, develop programs that address the root causes of homelessness, such as lack of affordable housing, mental health support, and job opportunities. In addition to these expansion efforts, we plan on hosting educational workshops within schools to raise awareness about homelessness and poverty and host large-scale events such as Giving Tree
