Gr.11 Personal Project Turns Into Global Project

My Personal Project

Education has always held transformative power, and throughout my MYP Personal Project, I aimed to harness that potential to make a meaningful difference. My Personal Project was a journey of several initiatives that were each designed to support underprivileged children’s education across the globe.

Stationary items ready to be shipped off to young learners in need!

It first began with the organization of a school supply donation drive. Thanks to the tremendous support from my community, we collected over 6,000 essential items—pencils, notebooks, erasers, and sharpeners—from six different locations, including YIS, BST, and Eton House pre schools. These supplies were distributed to children in need through partnerships with 11 organizations across Ghana, Sierra Leone and Japan. This equipped young learners around the globe with the essential tools they needed to pursue their education.

Online Lessons with Tanzanian 3rd and 4th grade students

As the drive gained momentum, I recognized an opportunity to deepen my impact. I connected with various organizations across Africa and started weekly online lessons on basic economic concepts to 3rd and 4th graders in Tanzania and Nigeria. Teaching the 43 students was an immensely rewarding experience that highlighted the importance of adapting educational content to fit the diverse needs of young learners. Through these interactions I have also learned better about the authentic side of their local cultural and traditions.

Creation of a picture book "ABC"

Designed to introduce fundamental economic principles in a way that is both engaging and accessible to young children. This project became even more special through a collaboration with three children from Tanzania, who contributed illustrations. One of them, Bilali Hamsi, provided an illustration that vividly represented the concept of opportunity cost, demonstrating the incredible creativity and potential in every child.

I am deeply grateful for the support of YIS teachers, staff, and students, whose encouragement and involvement were crucial to the success of this initiative. It was their dedication that helped bring these projects to life.
