Are you ready to don your detective hat and unravel the clues? "Curtains: The Musical" promises to be a murder mystery spectacular, blending intrigue with the exhilarating world of musical theatre. This grand performance, chosen by our students in June 2024, showcases the collective creativity and hard work of our talented community.
The journey to the stage has been immense - a true testament to teamwork and artistic dedication. From the initial selection of this thrilling musical to the final touches being added to the set, every step has involved students across various disciplines. Our costume crew has crafted period-appropriate attire that breathes life into characters, while the sets and props teams have built an immersive world right on stage. Meanwhile, the tech crew ensures every sound and light cue adds to the mysterious ambience.
Actors, dancers, and directors have come together, dedicating countless hours to perfecting their roles and bringing the story to life. Here’s what some of them have to say about their experience:
“We learn the singing, dancing and acting that brings the scenes together. For me, it’s a new experience to have to act as a person who dies. It is hard to stay in character sometimes because I can’t imagine what that would be like. In the dance team, I try new positions and dance styles; sometimes, I am a backup dancer in a small group or performing a duet. It’s a new opportunity to do something different. We enjoy being in the production club. It can be challenging, but the fun begins when the performance comes together.” - Eva, Yeha, Yeseo
“Being a part of the directional team in our last year of Middle School has been unforgettable. Being a director, leader, and reliable friend to these talented actors and technicians has been an honor, and we will miss this when we move to high school. Curtains is truly a big step that we took this year, bringing back the music and dance, and we are sincerely proud of the progress we’ve made and honored to present this year’s MS Production: Curtains!”
"We have to learn a lot of new skills, some of which can be quite complex, but it is fun. When we use the lighting board in rehearsals, we have to think about the sliders and the colours that relate to what is happening on stage. It can be difficult because sometimes we can’t hear anything and must work out cues. Examples of cues include starting the music on time and any lighting effects. Being in the tech team is different from a main role on stage, but it is an important role that helps tell the story" - Yoshiya and Luke
