Grade 7 Expedition

The Grade 7 expedition, developed with outdoor education partner Northstar, further develops students' leadership and expedition skills and knowledge, facilitating inquiry into the statement: Living and working in communities presents opportunities and challenges. Northstar Outdoor Adventure Center is set in the beautiful Norikura area of Nagano. Students are first lodged in comfortable dormitory-style accommodation, where Northstar instructors guide them to prepare for their overnight self-guided hike around Taisho Pond in Kamikochi, one of Japan's National Cultural Assets. Students spend most of the next day navigating their way around the pond, being self reliant with food and setting up tents. This experience enables them to further develop their campcraft skills and shared leadership as they operate in small groups in an outdoor setting. Back at Northstar's lodge, students reflect on the challenges and opportunities encountered on their expedition and explore concepts such as resilience and perseverance as they attempt the climbing wall and take part in mountain biking.

Note: The cost of this expedition is covered in the school tuition.
