Grade 10 Diving Expedition
The grade 10 diving expedition, developed by Dive Thru diving school, Philippines, and the PADI open water programme, further extends the student’s skills and knowledge of expeditions and leadership, facilitating inquiry into the theme: Living and working in communities requires a shared understanding of leadership. Before the expedition, students undergo an intensive investigation into dive theory, followed by written exams, before applying their knowledge of diving in confined water pool sessions as they have the opportunity to work towards diving certification. Students fly to the Philippines during Expedition week, where they spend the time diving by boat, leading themselves and each other through the mental and physical challenges that open ocean diving brings. An understanding of the ocean environment and how humans are connected to the sustainability of ocean ecosystems is also explored as students learn the basics of coral propagation to rebuild damaged reefs.
Why does our school feel that going hiking, diving and kayaking is so vital to students' education? The students explain it best in this video.
