What is your nationality?

Taiwanese

How long have you been at the school?

This is my ninth year at YIS.

What are your two favorite subjects, and why do you like them?

I like Visual Art and Economics.

I like the flexibility of having no correct answer in Visual Art, and the ability to express emotions and inner thoughts through creativity that is hard to communicate through verbal text. I like Economics because of the broad disciplines that economics connects, from human behaviors to politics, to discussing and examining how global issues could be tackled with economic principles.

What non-academic activities are you involved in, and why do you like them

I have particularly enjoyed starting the Design and Management Club. The club provides a platform for students interested in graphic design, product design, or management, to express their creativity and innovation. We aim to offer creative services needed by other clubs, to produce logos, posters, pamphlet and other marketing or promotional materials. For example, we have worked with Dragon Council, the LGBTQ+ club, and the High School production, Legally Blonde to promote their activities. We work closely with each other, but with other clubs as well in designing creative products. I like the flexibility in how our group works - members have the opportunity to work with various skills and materials depending on the what other clubs need. We've made large posters of senior athletes to LGBTQ+ keychains and more. It has also been very eye-opening to work collaboratively with different sectors, crossing the boundaries between athletics teams and service clubs.

What do you like to do for fun outside of school?

Outside of school, I like to travel and ride bicycles because it always refreshes my mind.

What do you enjoy most about learning at YIS?

The thing I enjoy the most about learning at YIS is the close community we have. I feel like it is so special to be in a community where everyone is so approachable and heartwarming. A lot of people know many people by name whether they are in the same grade or not. The close community certainly helps me to maximize my potential by seeking help when needed, and to relieve stress from academics by spending time in the community that is very connected.

What were some surprising benefits you gained from Continuous Learning last spring? Was there anything that you learned about yourself, such as studying styles you prefer, or new habits you developed?

I liked the ability to decide how I would distribute my time, and prioritize the tasks I need to do with my excess time. Since I am slower at processing things, I found it very helpful to have the flexibility of time to study independently.

Which teacher would you like to trade places with?

I would like to trade places with Ms. Justice because I think fostering creative students and closely looking at how students develop from year to year would be very interesting.

What is your favorite YIS event of the school year?

My favorite YIS event is spirit week because it is always fun to see the themes and the short performances of other grades.

What excites you most about the new YIS campus?

I am certainly excited to see how the increase in the space at the new campus provides opportunities for new clubs that we aren't able to have on our current campus. I am also intrigued to see how the learning style will evolve at the new campus.
