How long have you been at YIS?

This is my fourth year ay YIS.

What are your two favorite subjects, and why do you like them?

My two favorite subjects are music and math because in music and math, there is a point that is the same. The point is that if I get the basics, I can use that to solve many other problems. For example, for music the basics are the chords and notes and you can make a simple song only with that.

What sports and activities are you involved in?

I am involved in many activities outside school. I've been taking piano lessons for 10 years, drum lessons for four years, guitar lessons for two years, and swimming lessons for six years. I am also part of a volleyball club.

You are involved with music quite a bit. Tell us more about what you like about music, and what you hope to do with music as you study it more.

I can play piano, drums, and guitar at a performance level. I usually join many bands changing the instruments almost every time. In Rockschool, I played drums for the music recital with Grade 12, and played guitar and piano solo. I like music very much because I can get so focused that I can feel a world inside one song and it is very fun to play with the beat and rhythm. I can get very excited especially when I play other instruments. When I learn more about music, I hope to make my own songs and collaborate with other schools in Japan and plan in a concert or in a live performance together.

Which teacher would you like to trade places with, and why?

I would like to trade places with music or PE teachers because I would be able to see a student’s growth and how they develop their skills.

What famous person, past or present, would you most like to meet in person, and why?

I would like to meet the members of a band called Sekai No Owari. This is an international band and some members of the band are also international school students, so they make English songs and Japanese songs. I would like to talk to them about how they became a band and how they started music.

What excites you most about the new YIS campus?

I am very excited about the new music studios.
