How long have you been at YIS?

This is my 7th year at YIS.

What do you like about learning here at YIS?

What I enjoy most about learning at YIS is the wonderful sense of community. Everyone is incredibly kind and inclusive making it a very supportive and encouraging learning environment where I feel valued and respected. The school also organizes fantastic events throughout the year that bring the whole community together.

What sports or activities outside of class are you involved with, and why do you like being involved with them?

I’m a member of the Film Club. Cinema has always fascinated me, and I've been dreaming of creating my own projects for a long time. Being part of the Film Club allows me to turn that dream into a reality. I'm also an active member of the Second Chance service team, which aims to reduce overall clothing waste and promote sustainable fashion. It's incredibly fulfilling to work with like-minded individuals to raise awareness and make a positive impact on our environment.

What do you like to do for fun outside of school?

I love spending time with friends, traveling and creating wonderful memories together. I also really enjoy cooking, it feels amazing to make food for myself and see my skills improve over time.

What are two things you would miss if you left YIS?

The two things I will miss the most when I graduate are the wonderful people and the delicious food at Dragon Dining. The teachers and students at YIS are incredibly kind, supportive, and fun to be around. The food at Dragon Dining is amazing, I’m going to miss the cinnamon rolls and donuts so much. They are by far the best I've ever had, and the thought of not having access to them anymore makes leaving YIS even harder.

Which teacher would you like to trade places with, and why?

If I could trade places with a teacher at YIS, I'd choose Mr. Mejia, my math teacher. His passion for math is contagious, seeing his face light up when we discuss interesting mathematical concepts in class makes me feel happy. Mathematics may not be the most popular subject among students, but Mr. Mejia's dedication to making it enjoyable and engaging is commendable. I truly look up to him and I aspire to be someone that can inspire others the same way he does.

What is your favorite YIS event of the school year?

My favorite school event is Studentainment. I think it's a fantastic way to conclude the semester and celebrate together. I love the enthusiasm of the students and the lively atmosphere. Seeing everyone passionately cheering for each other and showcasing their talents is truly inspiring. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn more about my fellow students.

What is your favorite space on campus?

I like to hang out at the Terrace. I always spend time there with my friends, even after we have finished our food. It's especially enjoyable in spring and autumn when the temperature is perfect and there's a light breeze. It warms my heart to see groups of students hanging out during lunch break, whether they are playing sports, chatting on the side of the field, or simply napping in the sun.

What do you think makes YIS a special place to learn?

The YIS community is big but we all naturally connect with each other every day.  That makes it an enjoyable and memorable place to learn.
