How many years did you attend YIS? 13

Where are you currently based, and what is your occupation/what are you studying?

I am currently studying at University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, majoring in Economics and minoring in Urban Studies.

Which teachers played an important role in your time at YIS?

So many teachers were important at different phases of my learning. Koto teacher Mr. Patterson, Individuals and Societies teacher Mr. Hauet, and Athletics Director Mr. Tananone are those who played a key role throughout my school life.

What is your most memorable moment from your time at YIS?

Again there are too many to mention, but one of my most memorable moments was during the senior retreat when we did an activity where we all stood around the campfire and said what we were thankful for. There was so much that was shared that created a sense of intimacy within the group, and it made me thankful to be graduating with my classmates.

What type of sports or non-academic activities were you involved with at YIS?

I was in the Girls Volleyball, Field Hockey and Badminton team as well as part of the Sanagitachi Service Club, and Dragon Council.

Which grade-level or class at YIS would you want to relive, and why? Would you do anything differently?

I would like to relive Gr. 10 because I have so many fun memories from that time including a reunion with my best friends since middle school.

How did the IB program prepare you for university life? What did you find easy to adapt to in university because of your experience in the IB?

The IB program definitely helped me prepare for university by teaching me how to study in a productive way, and how to write long essays or research papers. I also feel that the Creativity, Activity, Service requirements helped me gain service and volunteer experiences that I could put to use in similar situations in university.
