High School Student
How long have you been at YIS?
I've ben at YIS for three years.
What are your two favorite subjects, and why do you like them?
My two favorite subjects are Individuals and Societies and Science. I get to learn so much about the world in both of the subjects, and the research skills they require have great carryovers.
What sports and activities are you involved in, and why do you like them?
Though we're currently not able to take part in service group meetings because of the COVID-19 pandemic, our Van der Poel service group has helped me develop gratitude and empathy for others.
What do you like to do for fun outside of school?
I'm always enthusiastic to try out new foods from different cultures! I enjoy the Food Fair at YIS for that very reason.
Which teacher would you like to trade places with, and why?
Mr Edwards! It seems like he can do everything, from being our school's IT Director to teaching Individuals & Societies and Science (and probably every other subject).
What were some surprising benefits you gained from Continuous Learning last spring? Was there anything that you learned about yourself, such as studying styles you prefer, or new habits you developed?
I personally loved our Continuous Learning phases. As someone who works better independently, I was able to focus so much more.
What famous person, past or present, would you most like to meet in person, and why?
This is a hard one. I'd love to meet someone on the Marvel cast, like Robert Downey Jr. or Tom Holland. Though I'm not the most avid Marvel fan, they all seem to be full of personality in their interviews.
What excites you most about the new YIS campus?
Definitely the swimming pool. I used to live in tropical countries where beaches and pools were everywhere, but since moving to Japan, I haven't had the chance to swim yet.
