Position in School: Middle School Vice Principal and MYP Coordinator
What year did you come to YIS, and where were you working prior to YIS?
I joined YIS in 2021, prior to that I worked at the American Community School of Beirut and the United Nations International School of Hanoi before that.
What attracted you to come work at YIS?
The opportunity to work in an established and dynamic three program IB school that has a holistic approach to educating students.
What areas of school life are you involved with at YIS?
I'm involved in student leadership, parent learning and student learning for Grades 6 - 10.
How is learning different here at YIS?
In middle school, our approach of assessment through a narrative lens supports students to think about their next steps in their learning. This means the learning is authentic, varied, student centered and responsive to the needs of each student.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of school, and what do you enjoy most about life in Japan?
I enjoy cycling, travel and exploring different areas of Japan.
Which YIS event(s) do you feel highlights who we are as a school?
I think all the events we have at YIS highlight our diversity as a school, who we are and what we offer.
What excites you most about working here at YIS?
The amazing students, talented and dedicated teachers, and the wonderful school community.
What do you love about living and working in Japan?
I love the food, the train system, how safe it is, the culture and people, the natural beauty of the country, I could go on as there are so many more reasons. I love working in Japan because YIS is an amazing community to be a part of.
