How long have you been at YIS?

I have been in YIS since kindergarten, making that about 12 years.

What are your two favorite subjects, and why do you like them?

My two favorite subjects are geography and math because of the relationship I have with both of the teachers. I enjoy geography because we are able to discuss relevant world topics and things that are useful for our future but at the same time see the connections between what we have in our lives. Although math is a difficult subject, the class is interesting and we do interactive activities altogether.

What activities outside of class are you involved with, and why do you like them?

I am involved in sports and HOPE Cambodia. For sports, I like the fact that we have a team that we work with and have fun together, we get the opportunity to travel, play with other teams, and practice multiple times a week. This creates an environment where the team can get closer and learn to further work better together. This will be my second year in HOPE, but this year I will be participating in the trip to Cambodia, and I am excited to experience it first hand and see the changes that we can make.

What do you like to do for fun outside of school?

Outside of school, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and going to new places with my friends or family. I especially enjoy going shopping and eating out in Tokyo at new places I have never been to. As a hobby, I like to play sports with my friends and hang out over the weekend.

What do you enjoy most about learning at YIS?

The thing I enjoy most about learning at YIS is the relationships I have with my teachers and being able to talk to them, especially about things that I am not sure about in class. These are the types of connections that I appreciate most about learning at YIS.

What are two things you would miss if you left YIS?

I will miss my friends when I leave YIS, especially because YIS is an international school and many people will go to many different places in the world. The second thing I will miss is the environment of YIS and how close everyone is in school no matter what grade, because we are such a small community we are able to get to know everyone.

Which teacher would you like to trade places with, and why?

If I could trade places with a teacher I would with a science teacher because they are able to use all the equipment to do different experiments and do interesting things.

What is your favorite YIS event of the school year?

My favorite YIS event of the school year is the last assembly because everyone is together in the gym, and there are performances, speeches, and recognitions of teachers who are leaving. The last assembly is always sad but there are happy moments as well, where everyone is hugging and appreciating each other.

What famous person, past or present, would you most like to meet in person, and why?

A famous person I would like to meet right now is Meghan Markle because I feel that she has made a huge impact becoming a princess of color. I feel that by meeting her there are so many things that I could learn and be a part of.

What excites you most about the new YIS campus?

Some things that excite me most about the new campus is how modern and spacious it is going to be. Even though I will be an alumna when the time comes, I can always visit and see my teachers. The biggest bonus of the new school is how big the gyms and soccer fields are going to be, and the addition of the pool is something I never thought this school would have.
