How long have you been at YIS?

I have been at YIS for 8 years.

What do you like about learning here at YIS?

I like YIS because it allows for creativity with a balance between instruction and freedom when doing tasks. We are also given collaborative tasks which allows us to develop our communication and leadership skills.

What sports or activities outside of class are you involved with, and why do you like them?

I'm a member of the Secondary School Koto Ensemble. I like being involved because I get to experience so many wonderful things such as playing in concerts and going to competitions. I also love practicing with the other members.

What do you like to do for fun outside of school?

I practice archery three times a week. It's fun because I can compete in big competitions and make friends outside of school.

What are two things you would miss if you left YIS?

I would miss the warm atmosphere in the classes and the spacious hub areas where we are able to socialize and relax.

What is your relationship with your teachers like here at YIS?

The relationship with my teachers is great. They motivate and inspire me to find my own path in life.

Which teacher would you like to trade places with, and why?

Sincerely, I would not want to trade places with any of my teachers because they do such a fantastic job and I don’t think I could do them justice if I traded places.

What is your favorite YIS event of the school year?

I have more than one. My favorite events are the Koto Performances and the Food Fair because I get to meet a lot of people and have fun through my hard work.

What is your favorite space on campus?

My favorite space is the 4th Floor Rooftop by the Chowa-an because it’s a very calming place to be and it has a great view.

How have you changed since being at YIS?

I have transformed from a very shy and quiet kid to a more confident and outspoken young adult.

What do you think makes YIS a special place to learn?

It's difficult to answer that in one sentence because YIS is such a unique place, but If I have to narrow it down I'd say it's the close relationships between people and our wonderfully designed campus.
