YIS Adventure Days in the month of May are designed for our students to explicitly learn in wilderness settings and adventure - because nature is good for children.
Thank you for your interest in working at Yokohama International School. YIS enjoys an excellent reputation for being a great school, a warm and welcoming community, and a rewarding place to work. We offer a competitive package, excellent professional learning opportunities and the chance to work with talented professionals from around the world. We are looking for excellent teachers who are passionate about education and wish to contribute to school and student life in a variety of ways.
YIS is committed to the principle of equal opportunity in education and employment. We do not discriminate against individuals on the basis of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, age, or national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational, admissions or employment policies, but may take into account factors including a student applicant's prior educational and linguistic background for purposes of admission in order to fulfill the school's mission of providing education in the English language to the international community. Furthermore, as an international school founded in 1924 and arising out of the spirit of internationalism that prevailed following the formation of the League of Nations, Yokohama International School supports the principles of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
YIS promotes and protects the rights of children to physical and psychological well-being. In line with the school's Student Protection Policy and Guidelines, we implement safe recruitment procedures to ensure that all potential members of staff undergo comprehensive criminal background checks. We also require references from previous direct supervisors for all finalist candidates.
If you are interested in working at our school, we encourage you to continue to check this webpage regularly; new vacancies are posted as they become available. Please see below for current job postings.
Please note: At YIS we receive hundreds of applications each year for a limited number of positions. We apologize that we are not able to respond to each applicant individually and will only contact those whose applications we wish to pursue further.
To apply for any of the positions listed above, please click the Apply Now button and complete the online application. As part of this process you will need to upload a cover letter of application and your CV (resume), as well as to provide the names and contact details of at least three referees, one of whom should be your present Principal or Head of School (or direct supervisor for administrative positions). If you have worked for less than 6 years in your current place of employment, please provide referee contact details from previous employment, either Head of School or Principal. References will only be sought for applicants who are shortlisted.
At YIS, we actively communicate our ideas on education and leadership, thus nurturing an environment of pedagogical dialogue and dynamic inquiry. "In Our Words," is an outlet where administrators, teachers and staff share their thoughts, ideas and observations about teaching, learning and community, to spark conversations and growth throughout the school.
I noticed that I was different when I was in early Elementary School here at YIS. Whenever I tried to speak my mind, I had noticed that the words wouldn’t come out, and what had seemed so seamless and easy to my peers became an insurmountable challenge for me.
“In times like this global pandemic”, wrote our TEDxYouth@YIS Team, “we collectively tend to hyper-focus on the present… and forget that there is a future in front of us”.
Last Wednesday was an exciting day for our school community as many years of planning came to fruition when our students, and many parents, walked through the gates of our new home.
The “new campus” will very soon be called simply YIS. However, although it looks very different physically, the design of our new home is actually very much guided by how the Yamate campus shaped us as a school and as a community.
Working with NoTosh, a strategy consulting company and educational think tank, our community will articulate our vision of learning and teaching and develop our Strategic Plan for the future.
