Field Studies
Every October YIS offers a week of educational opportunities beyond the classroom. The school empties with Grades 6 - 11 scattering in different directions to far-flung locations around Japan. For the 2007-08 school year, Middle School trips included the following:
Grade 6
Hakuba, Evergreen Camp follows a wilderness recreation & environmental education program that includes kayaking & biking while learning about the environment and gaining an awareness of the ecology of the area.
Grade 7
Ura-Bandai: hiking around a lake is a prelude to climbing the 1900m. Mt.Bandai. Other activities include creating stained glass work, and learning archery.
Grade 8
Norikura, Nagano-ken, Northstar Adventure Lodge: some action-packed adventure includes the personal challenges of a climbing wall, and mountain biking on world-class trails. Students also undertake the ropes course and hike to a spectacular waterfall in magnificent scenery beneath the 3000m. mountain.
