After-School Activities Program
YIS is delighted to offer an ‘After-School Activities Program’ for Elementary children. Currently three sessions are offered beginning in September, November, and March each academic year.
Students from Grade 1 to Grade 5 are welcome to join in with any relevant activity at any time of the year. Kindergarten students are invited to participate in the sports-related offerings, beginning from the second session. The ES Activity Coordinator is Sonya Wild. Miss Wild is responsible for the running of the program. She provides information to parents and children in advance of each session and is responsible for organizing requests and dealing with questions and queries.
YIS students are offered a wide variety of opportunities through this program, which vary from year to year depending on teachers’ interests. Activities have ranged from Choir to Elementary Drama Productions, Football to Cricket and Board Games to Computer Clubs. Choices continue to change and evolve.
Most YIS Elementary School teachers offer a minimum of one activity per year. Teacher-led activities are offered free of charge, although on occasions a small fee may be charged to cover raw materials such as food for a cooking club or ink/brushes etc for calligraphy. Activities usually begin at 3:15pm and end at 4:00pm. Parents are asked to pick up their children promptly after the activities finish.
Parents and outside coaches also offer special clubs and opportunities for our students. These have included such clubs as Jazz Dance, Aikido, Brownies and In-Line Hockey. These activities are sometimes offered as fee-paying activities. In the event of a fee being charged, parents will be notified of the fee structure in advance. A free trial lesson is normally offered by the coach/teacher concerned. Any queries about fees should be directed to the activity teachers/coaches directly.
Parents: If you would like to sponsor an activity, please come and see Miss Wild or send an email in the first instance. The children enjoy the opportunity to work with each other in a relaxed, social setting and we value your input to this worthwhile aspect of school life.
Students are invited to participate in one after-school activity per session. On occasions and dependent on demand and space, it may be possible for a student to participate in more than one. Similarly, if demand for an activity(ies) is high, a ‘lucky draw’ may have to be made to decide who is able to attend, as maximum group size limits often apply. Your understanding is much appreciated.
Activities may be cancelled in the event of rain; to check on possible cancellation due to weather, please check the website or call the School Office (045-622-0084). The teacher of each activity will make contact via email to inform of cancellation.
