Athletics
In addition to the regular PE curriculum, Yokohama International School offers a wide range
of extracurricular athletic activities designed to stimulate and develop the interests of
every participant.
In Elementary School this is provided through a variety of after-school activities, where everyone can participate and the focus is on fun and learning of basic skills.
In Middle School, the emphasis remains on maximum participation, where
effort and enthusiasm are rewarded alongside physical prowess. Players
are encouraged to develop a long-standing enjoyment of competitive
sports. They will begin to develop specific sports-related skills and
learn to apply these in games situations.
At the High
School level, the emphasis is on preparing student athletes for more
competitive situations and striving for excellence in all areas. High School athletes are expected to show personal
responsibility and commitment, and we encourage them to develop positive leadership skills, emotional control, mental toughness and to serve as good role models to the younger student athletes.
All
YIS athletes are expected to demonstrate appropriate levels of
respect through good sportsmanship, co-operation, punctuality,
attendance, drive and team/school spirit. Above all,
the Athletic Program seeks to unite positively, players, coaches, team
managers and parents from a variety of international backgrounds
through common and shared sporting experiences.
