The Sakura Medal is an opportunity for international school students across Japan to come together to recognize outstanding new works of fiction. Lists of 25-30 books in each of several categories (Picture Books, Chapter Books, Middle School, High School, Japanese Picture Books, Japanese Intermediate, and Japanese High School) have been compiled by a group of librarians for students to choose from. Students then read any five books (three for High School) in a category by April 26, 2010 to be eligible to vote for the book they feel most deserving of the 2010 Sakura Medal.
All members of the YIS community are encouraged to participate in the program, but only students will be eligible to vote.
