On Thursday, May 14th Cezars Kitchen and YIS will hold a campus-wide Feast and Famine Lunch. The objective of the event is to help students gain a better awareness of poor nutritional conditions in many areas of the world. At the same time it will provide a connection with poor or malnourished people around the world, as all profits will be donated to HOPE International Development Agency.
On the 14th, two types of lunches will be served in the cafeteria, giving students a first-hand look at the imbalances in nutrition that exist between developed and developing countries. The cost of either lunch will be 600 yen per person. Participating students and teachers will randomly draw to see if they will experience a third world-style meal or a meal that might be readily available in a developed country. About 30% of the participants will experience a developed world-style lunch; they will sit at tables, eat a full balanced meal, including drink bar and desserts, and be able to go back for seconds. The remaining 70% will have a third world-style lunch; they will eat on the floor of the cafeteria, will not have access to regular utensils, will be served a portion similar in size to what children in the third world eat, have limited water and will not be allowed to go back for seconds.
Cezars Kitchen, YIS and HOPE International hope to increase awareness of all those involved by holding this educational event. Joining forces, we can make a difference and take active participation in combating malnutrition while learning more about how two-thirds of the world’s children eat on a regular basis.

*Please note that if, for medical or other reasons, parents wish their
children to have a full lunch on May 14th, they will need to provide a
packed lunch as there will be no regular lunch service in the cafeteria
this day.
