April 28, 2008
Dear Parents,
We hope you managed to get out to a park to enjoy the cherry blossoms. With that behind us we can now focus on the Food Fair, which is just around the corner. Have a look in the School Store for your 2008 Food Fair T-shirt; they’re selling like hot cakes. Talking of which, the British tearoom needs more cake donations. Other stalls also need help so please check the Food Fair News page for information.
Be sure to look at our Community Bulletin Board for local events in May and June. There are also a couple of new websites for you to look at.
Please continue to share your favourite restaurants, excursions or websites. Your contributions can be sent to us at: messenger@yis.ac.jp and if you can, we would appreciate it in Microsoft Word. Please note that the deadline for the next The Messenger is May 23, 2008.
Warm regards,
The Communications Committee

Indonesian Cooking

TAPIOKA GULA MERAH (Tapioca with Palm sugar)
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup Tapioca
1 liter water
150 grams palm sugar
80-100 cc water
1/2 can of coconut milk
Method:
- Boil water in a saucepan, add in Tapioca and bring to boil again and then simmer for about 6 minutes. Turn off the heat and simmer for another 10 minutes. Place in sieve under cold running water.
- Brush mold with oil, add in tapioca and 1-2 tablespoons of coconut milk, mix well.
- Keep in refrigerator to chill for about 1-2 hours.
- Combine water and palm sugar in a small saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally until palm sugar dissolves, simmer for 5 minutes until the syrup thickens. Remove from heat and cool and strain with a sieve.
- To serve, top tapioca with palm sugar syrup.
