YIS Visiting Scholars Program

The YIS Visiting Scholars Program invites those undertaking research in an international school context to carry out their research at YIS for up to one month. The school provides accommodation, round-trip airfare, and a modest stipend to cover living costs.

In exchange, visiting scholars are expected to publish their results in an international education magazine or academic journal, to engage YIS staff in the area of research, and to provide some professional development sessions in their area of expertise.

The program is open to professional academics as well as teaching practitioners undertaking graduate research. We will consider applications from a range of research interests, although as a school we are grappling with one very big question: What should a modern international education entail? What sorts of knowledge, skills, attitudes and experiences do we need to foster in our students in order to inspire them and help them to fulfill their human potential as responsible global citizens, and how can we best do so?

Application Procedure

Applications for research visits of up to four weeks will be considered. Please see our school calendar for information on school holidays and events. To apply, please send the following documents to

  • Cover letter describing the content, progress and academic affiliation of your research, proposed dates of visit, proposed research activities while at YIS, and possible professional development sessions that you could offer our staff
  • CV and names/contact information for three professional references
  • Samples of previous published research (if available)

Thank you for your interest in the YIS Visiting Scholars Program. Selection will be made on a rolling basis and announced when a suitable candidate is found.
