Summer's Cool Program
For Elementary Students
June 14 - July 2, 2010
Addressing Individual Academic Needs in a Fun and Balanced Program
Summer's Cool is an effective and enjoyable learning program focused upon identifying individual needs and working toward
improvement within classes that have a small student to teacher
ratios. Using information collected about each student, teachers
will be able to focus on key areas for improvement, making the the most of students' time here to help support existing knowledge
and extend students' abilities.
With the ability to select either
extra classes for Maths or Language Arts, in small classes with
teachers aware of each individual's learning goals, students will work toward
building the confidence and knowledge needed to meet their academic goals.
At the same time, Summer's Cool revolves around a healthy balance of academics, fun and
creative artistic and athletic activities, all held here at the YIS
campus by qualified staff eager to work with students to make this
an outstanding and fun summer of learning.

In
addition, all applicants must provide health history and emergency
contact information. For current YIS students, this information will
already be on file. Please make sure to notify the School Office if
there have been any noteworthy changes since the beginning of the
current school year. Non-YIS applicants must complete and return a
Health History & Emergency Contact Form, which you may download

Yes,
YIS students receive priority placement. Qualified students from other
international schools will be accepted on a first-come, first-served
basis.
What class should my child enter for Summer’s Cool?
Students
will enter into the same grade level class as the one they will
complete at the end of the 2009-2010 school year. For example, if the
applicant will finish Grade 3 in June 2010, he/she should apply for the
Grade 3 class on offer at Summer’s Cool.
What if my child is set to be in Middle School next August?
Students
who finish Grade 5 at the end of the 2009-2010 school year will apply
to the 5th Grade class on offer at Summer’s Cool, and then move on to
the Middle School learning program in the summer of 2011. For

program, please visit this link.
We will be returning to our home country for part of the summer. Can my child attend for only two weeks or just one week?
In
order to gain the maximum benefit from the program on offer, students
are strongly encouraged to attend the full three-week session. As such,
priority placement is given to students registering for the full
program. Applicants who are not able to commit to the full three weeks
will be admitted if space is available.
What are the registration and tuition payment deadlines?
Although there is no application deadline, classes fill up fast and waitlists may apply. Please note that applications are not considered complete until payment has been made in full. If we are unable to offer a class for which you have applied, a refund will be issued.
How much is the tuition? Are there any scholarships?
The
tuition for the full three weeks is ¥162,000 yen, which includes a very
nutritious lunch each day, as well as carefully selected snacks both in
the morning and afternoon to ensure the students are enjoying a healthy
and balanced diet during their time with us. Students who are admitted
for two weeks will be charged ¥120,000, with one week enrollments being
¥60,000. There is a ¥15,000 per week surcharge for late registration (applications made in June).
