Important Updates and Requests
We are looking forward to seeing everyone soon. As we start the new school year, please note the following important updates and requests:
New PE Kit
Beginning this year we have a new PE uniform -- compulsory for all students other than ELC -- that includes a pair of black shorts, a short sleeve tee and a long sleeve tee (the shirts are red for elementary students and black with red highlights for secondary students). The elementary PE shirts may also be used for field trips. The 3-piece PE kit, priced at ¥6,000, is available for purchase at the school store, which is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:15 - 11:00 am. Students will be expected to wear the new PE uniform by September 1st.
Confirm Your Information on the Parent Portal
Note to New YIS Parents: You will be receiving your login credentials the week of August 14th.
Please take a few moments to log in to the parent portal, click on the My Family icon at the top and double check that your family profile, medical profile and permissions under the school policies tab are complete and up to date. It is especially important that your child’s medical information and emergency contacts are accurate. In particular, if your child has allergies or asthma, make sure that the Health Office has the most up to date information on your child's condition, medications or other treatment measures. Also, if your child has a mobile phone, please make sure the phone number is on record. The Update Family Profile section is also where you can set your preferences for what level of contact information you want to be displayed on the online YIS family directory. If you have any questions or problems accessing the portal, please contact email@example.com.
Most students and staff travel to and from the school using convenient public transportation, or on foot or by bicycle. We encourage you to minimize automobile travel to/from the campus. We are located in a residential district with narrow yet busy roads, and traffic congestion can be a major irritation for our neighbors. If you do drive your child to/from school, please understand and strictly obey the school’s parking and traffic regulations. In particular, please remember:
- There is no parking on any of the roads around the YIS campus and cars must never be left unattended, even for just a minute or two.
- The designated drop-off/pick-up point for the main campus is the playground gate, and cars may only line up on the side road along the playground.
- The front of school is a particularly busy street and for safety reasons may not be used for pick up and drop off.
Peanut-Safe PolicyFinally, I would like to remind you that we do have students at school with severe allergies to peanuts. Such allergies are potentially life threatening, as the affected individual can experience anaphylactic shock by consuming, touching or even smelling food with peanuts in it. Recognizing the seriousness of this health risk, please make sure to never bring to school or on school-related trips any food products that contain peanuts, peanut oil and peanut butter.
Thank you for your cooperation and best regards,
Head of Operations
